Originally issued in 1853 by H. Phelps & Co. for inclusion in Fanning's Illustrated Gazetteer of the United States, these state and city maps were the first octavo size maps designed specifically for a U. S. gazetteer. Each state map shows county names and boundaries, many towns and prominent geographic features. City maps show most streets and, where indicated, the important ward boundaries.
